Estar enfermo

Being Ill | La Bella Varsovia, 2010

Lethal in epigram: Nietzsche’s notion of the «imperishable in the midst of all that changes.»

Rebellion against the Platonic heritage and its dissociation of body and soul. Commendation of feminine excellence, attached to the concept, heroic, eloquent in its beautiful — as well as fearsome and enviable — corporeality. A tribute to Virginia Woolf. A party where echoes of Lhasa, of Baudelaire's attachment to wickedness and Lorca's poetic song can be heard. Something akin to a paradise for the author of "Lolita," Estar enfermo is not only the sublimation of adolescent fierceness or pride; it is the expression of a despondency in an authority whose language is never affected.

For which eroticism is constructed only via fiendishly subtle clues: at times erected as a lament for disdain, absence, loss or guilt, these verses skilfully and sweetly subdue the reader, like a lover who gladly follows instructions.
