María Virginia Jaua was born in Madrid in 1971 to Venezuelan parents, She has lived in Caracas, Mexico, Paris, Beirut and Madrid. From her diverse origins comes her interest in travelling, nomad cultures, the diaspora, freedom of thought, borders trespassing and cultural diversity beyond literary and artistic genres. She majored in Mass Communication, specialised in journalism, in the Universidad Central de Venezuela, and in Hispanic Language and Literature by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Afterwards she went on to do a Masters in Modern Literature and Gender studies, Arts and Francophone Literature in the Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Paris 3. Recently she presented her first film essay, The 3 Eras
–in process–, based on José Luis Brea’s book The 3 Eras of Image (Akal, 2010), and did the curation for the exhibition This –hasn’t– been / Visuality Techniques for the Dos de Mayo Art Museum in Mostoles, Madrid.
