Ignacio Martínez de Pisón narrates this fascinating period from within, observing, as only he knows how, the impact collective history can have on the individual, that is, on the lives of ordinary people. Justo Gil is a recent emigrant who has settled in Barcelona, a bright, ambitious young man who, swept along by the swings of fortune, ends up becoming an informer for the Brigada Social, the regime’s secret police. A dozen memorable characters narrate how they met Justo at some point in their lives and what their relationship with him was like. Their testimonies make up a kaleidoscopic vision of the changing reality of the 1960s and 1970s, while telling the story of the breakdown of an individual whose behaviour and progression help us understand this fundamental chapter of Spain’s recent history - the Transition to Democracy.
