Andrés TRAPIELLO

La malandanza

La malandanza
Plaza & Janés, 1996

(Misery). While the “movida” was in full swing, one night in August 1978 two people from Madrid stop the brutal aggression that some young phalanges are dealing to two doctors, members of the Communist Party. Around this simple plot, Trapiello reconstructs the personal and social life of these characters, showing the Spain of the period hand in hand with the most sordid and cheap aspects of it. It is a pity that in order to show the internal history of the transition, people have tended to take as its symbols characters that represent the darkest of society.

« The characters reach the heart of the readers and that is one of the main obligations of a book: to create emotion, and Trapiello manages it.»Almudena Grandes

«La malandanza is a novel that transcends the code reading of an epoch because it shows us some that it is from a particular period and from all periods, in other words, from none: the greatness and the miseries of the human heart.» J. Rodríguez Marcos, Clarín
