Madrid, 1955

Fernando Trueba was a film critic well before directing his first feature film, Opera Prima, in 1980. Since then he has made over a dozen films, including, El año de las luces, (Silver Bear Award at the Berlin film Festival, 1987), The Dream of the Mad Monkey, (the winner of 5 Goya awards in 1990 including Best Film), Belle Époque, (winner of the 1993 Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film; 9 Goyas, including Best Film), Two Much (1996), La niña de tus ojos (1998), Calle 54, a musical documentary and homage to Latin Jazz (2000), El embrujo de Shanghai (2002) and El milagro de Candeal (2004), Goya Award for the Best Documentary. His latest film is the cinematographic adaption of Antonio Skarmeta’s novel El baile de la victoria. He is presently caught up in the preparation Chico y Rita a feature length animation with Javier Mariscal and script by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón.
