David Trueba has been successful both as a novelist and as a scriptwriter. La buena vida (1996) was his widely acclaimed debut as a film director and was followed by Obra Maestra (2001), Soldados de Salamina (2003), Bienvenido a casa (2006), the documentary La silla de Fernando (2007), directed with Luis Alegre the TV series ¿Qué fue de Jorge Sanz? (2010) and Madrid, 1987 (2011).

His first novel Abierto toda la noche (Anagrama, 1995) was widely translated and was followed by Cuatro amigos (Anagrama, 1999) a best (and long) seller with 20 reprints. His works also include the text that accompanies the recipe book Como quieras, cuando quieras, donde quieras. En la cocina de Sergi Arola (RBA, 2002) and the compilation of his press articles, Tragarse la lengua y otros artículos de ocasión (Ediciones B, 2003). Saber Perder (Anagrama, 2008), his latest novel, has had a great reception from its readers, earned the National Critics Prize 2008 and was shortlisted for the Dulce Chacón Award 2009 and the Prix Médicis Étranger 2010.

 His latest work is a collection of articles Érase una vez (Debate, 2012), in wich he shows his talent as journalist.
