Josep Maria FONALLERAS
Girona, 1959
Josep Mª Fonalleras studied Catalan Philology at the Universitat de Girona. He’s a highly recognized author who has been awarded numerous prizes. He has published a long list of works for adults as well as for children and young adults. His short stories stand out among his narrative works, all characterized by stylistic clarity and a refined sense of humour, and include the following titles: El rei del mambo (Edicions del Pel, 1985), Just M. Casero Prize 1983, City of Olot Prize 1984, Botxenski i companyia (Empúries,1988; Paidós, 1989), Avaria (Empúries, 1990), Llarga vista. Narrativa 1982-2002 (Empúries, 2003), Sis homes (Empúries, 2005) Winner of Serra d’Or Prize in 2006, and Un any de divorciat (Ara Llibres, 2007). He is also the author of the novels La millor guerra del món (Edicions 62, 1998) City of Palma Prize, and August & Gustav (Empúries, 2001). His collaborations with the press have been compiled in Interior de balena (Empúries, 1991) and Itinerari recomanat (Ara Llibres, 2003). His works for a younger audience include: Gertrudis i els dies (Cruïlla, 2003), El diari de la Laia (Cruïlla, 2005) and a series about Barça football club: Demà anirem al camp, Joan (2005); La foto d’en Marçal (2005); La final d’en Gorka (2005); Els somnis de l’Uri (2006) and La samarreta de la Fatimetu (2007), all published by Cruïlla. Les galetes del Saló de Te Continental (Cruïlla, 2007) won him the Vaixell de Vapor Prize. Currently he writes a daily opinion column in El Periódico.
His latest published book is a novel Climent (Amsterdam, 2013).
